Select “Trust Center” in the left pane. Select the “Trust Center Settings” button. Select “Email Security” in the left pane. In the “Read as Plain Text” section, check the “Read all standard mail in plain text” to disable received messages from being viewed as HTML and view email in plain text only. In Outlook 2010 and 2013, you can switch the vertical to schedule layout when you select 5 or more calendars and will switch back to the vertical view when only one calendar is selected by default. Manually switch between schedule view an vertical view
Supposing you have three calendars with the Month view displayed vertically side by side, you can quickly switch this view to schedule layout by clicking the Schedule View command, see screenshots:
Note: You can also click the Schedule View command to change the vertical layout to schedule view under the Day / Work Week / Week view.
Automatically switch between schedule view and vertical view
For automatically switch between schedule view and vertical view, please do as follows.
1. Click File > Options.

2. In the Outlook Options dialog box, please do as follow.
1). Click Calendar in the left bar, and go to the Display options section;
2). To auto switch from vertical layout to schedule view, please check the Automatically switch from vertical layout to schedule view when the number of displayed calendars is greater than or equal to box and change the number to the one you need;
3). To auto switch from schedule view to vertical layout, check the Automatically switch from schedule view to vertical layout when the number of displayed calendar is fewer than or equal to box, and change the number to the one you need;
4). Click the OK button. See screenshot:
Note: In this case, I change the numbers of this two boxes to 3 and 2 separately.
From now on, when I select 3 or more calendars, Outlook calendar will switch to schedule view automatically. And it will returns to vertical layout when the number of displayed calendars is equal or fewer than 2.

I could not understand why my new work computer would suddenly switch to a horrid landscape view when I added a fifth person's calendar, and then wouldn't switch back until I only had my own calendar shown. It was far enough down the options for my not to have spotted it. Normal service is resumed now, and I'm much happier!
In Outlook 2016, there is this huge gray bar at the bottom which lists (in a very big font) Mail, Calendar, People, Tasks, etc… to switch to their corresponding folder.
In previous versions of Outlook, they were listed as icons within the pane on the left which also displays all your folders.
I liked this configuration better as this was a lot smaller and therefor allows for more space to display the message list and also gives me a larger Reading Pane area.
Is there any way to put it back there and gain back some of this wasted space?
Depending on your screen’s resolution and whether or not you are using a touch screen, Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016 could indeed by default show you a large navigation strip at the bottom as shown below.
If you don’t like this, you can easily turn it back into the icon based navigation as it was in Outlook 2010 and previous.

Navigation Options
To turn this word based navigation back into an icon based navigation, click on the 3 dots (…) at the right-end of the Navigation and choose Navigation Options… or use View-> Folder Pane-> Options to bring up the same dialog.

In the Navigation Options dialog, enable the option: Compact Navigation.
The Navigation Bar will now collapse into the Folder Pane and will only show the icons:
The blue colored icon indicates which Navigation is currently active.
Note 1: The amount of icons that you see depends on what you have configured for the “Maximum number of visible items” in the Navigation Options, but also on the width of the Folder Pane itself.
Note 2: Placing the icons in a (mixed) vertical position like it was possible in Outlook 2010 and previous is no longer possible in Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016.

Placing the icons vertical requires you to minimize the Folder Pane altogether via:
View-> Folder Pane-> Minimized
